Elisa Hurley views teaching—whether in a classroom or on the yoga mat—as an act of service, fostering growth and connection. With a PhD in Philosophy specializing in ethical theory and the philosophy of emotions, she is deeply committed to exploring what it means to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. Elisa discovered yoga during her PhD studies, initially seeking relief and respite. The practice quieted her mind, anchored her in her body, and opened pathways to self-knowledge and community. As an assistant professor of philosophy at Western University, teaching yoga became a natural extension of her work, blending her academic background with her passion for creating spaces of inquiry and self-discovery. Elisa completed her 200 and 300 Hour Teacher Trainings at Down Under School of Yoga. She teaches alignment-focused, thoughtfully sequenced vinyasa classes that range from foundational to vigorous and are accessible to all levels. Hands-on assists are a cornerstone of Elisa’s teaching. She believes in the power of touch to deepen understanding, enhance alignment, and nurture connection, ensuring each student feels supported and seen. Elisa also brings her passion for yoga to Somerville Public Schools, where she teaches children to develop curiosity, body awareness, and mindful movement through the power of breath. In addition, she is pursuing nonprofit executive coaching, building on a decade of experience as the executive director of an educational nonprofit in Boston.
